First of the Spring Session-Beginner’s Bird and Plant Identification Walk at Lake Cunningham (Joint Event CNPS, SCVAS, and OSA)

Do you love being outdoors? Do you want to deepen your appreciation of nature by learning the names of birds and plants around you? At the onset of Spring, join us for a beginner’s bird and plant identification walk through Lake Cunningham Park, San Jose. Lake Cunningham is a major destination for waterfowl and migratory birds, and its native garden is home for many resident and migratory birds for its habitat value. On this walk, Vicki Silvas-Young will show you how to identify the common birds of our area and Arvind Kumar will identify the native plants they depend on for food, shelter, and nesting places.

Trip Difficulty: 4 miles round trip, level asphalt path, very little elevation gain

Other Trip Notes: Bring a hat, water, your bird and plant list, and binoculars. Masks are optional.

Meet: Marina Parking Lot

Directions: From US-101, exit Tully Rd. Continue east on Tully Rd. Park entrance road is on your left in 2 miles. Continue into the park, following the signs to the marina. Latitude/Longitude: 37.334164, -121.809997

Parking Type and Fees: There is a parking fee of $6.

Facilities: There is a bathroom located near the Marina Parking lot. No drinking water available. Cell phone service is fine.
