Field Trip: Beginning Birding at Rancho Canada Del Oro (Morgan Hill)
This is a joint event with Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority.
May is the perfect time to enjoy Rancho Cañada del Oro, a beautiful South County open space. Come join us on a bird walk for beginners in Rancho Cañada del Oro! We'll walk along Llagas Creek Loop, Hidden Meadow trail and Longwall Canyon trail to look for oak woodland species such as Band-tailed Pigeons, California Quail, Acorn Woodpeckers, Wrentits and raptors such as Red-shouldered Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks and Turkey Vultures.
Optional: pack your own lunch/snack and we'll picnic together afterwards.
Trip Difficulty: less than 2 miles, paved trails, packed-dirt trails, little or no elevation gain, some shade, poison oak alongside trail (wear long pants)
Other Trip Notes: Bring water, sunscreen, hat and binoculars if you have them. Binoculars will be available to borrow.

Meet: Preserve Overflow Parking Lot
Directions: From US-101, exit Bailey Ave. Continue west on Bailey Ave for 3 miles. Turn left onto McKean Rd, continue for 2.5 miles, then turn right onto Casa Loma Rd. The preserve is located at the end of Casa Loma Rd and the overflow lot is 1/4 mile up the road from the main parking lot - please do not park in the gravel equestrian lot.
