Field Trip: Birding Mayyam Ooyakma/Coyote Ridge from Metcalf Road (San Jose)

This is a joint event with Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority.

Coyote Ridge (Máyyan 'Ooyákma) is located in the Diablo Range foothills in southern Santa Clara County. We will explore the top of the ridge for Lark Sparrow, Grassopper Sparrow, Rufous-crowned Sparrow, Horned Lark, Rock Wren and other residents and explore the unique serpentine grassland.

Trip Difficulty: ~3 mile walk along the ridge, uneven or rutted trails, some hills (less than 300 ft elevation gain), little to no shade

Other Trip Notes: Bring binoculars, sunscreen and water. It can be hot.

Meet: Metcalf Motorcycle County Park overflow lot

Directions: From 101 take the Bailey exit east (373). Continue onto Malech Road past the main entrance to Mayyan Ooyakma until you reach a T-intersection. Turn right onto Metcalf for about 2.2 miles and go past the entrance to Metcalf Motorcycle Park to the next large turnout with a black fenced gate. Turn right. Lat/Long: 37.236723, -121.718135
