Field Trip: Birding Sierra Vista (San Jose, East Hills)

This is a joint event with Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority

This park is located in the eastern foothills of Santa Clara County. We will explore the grasslands and rock outcroppings of the Aquila Loop Trail around the summit area in search of Raptors, Prairie Falcon, Rock Wren and Horned Lark. We will also enjoy the amazing views over Santa Clara County.

Trip Difficulty: ~2 miles, gravel trails, packed-dirt trails, some hills (less than 300 ft elevation gain), little to no shade

Other Trip Notes: It can get hot later in the morning so bring water, suncreen and a hat.

Meet: Preserve Parking Lot

Directions: From I-680 in San Jose, exit Berryessa Rd. Travel east towards the hills for a little over a mile. Turn left onto Piedmont Rd, then turn right onto Sierra Rd (be prepared for a curvy, uphill drive).
