Coyote Ridge Wildflower and Birding

Coyote Ridge comprises 1,831 pristine acres located in the Diablo Range foothills in southern Santa Clara County and offers spectacular wildflower displays paired with stunning views over Coyote Valley. Although there are not many bird species on Coyote Ridge, the ones that are there can be fairly rare to include, BURROWING OWL, PRAIRIE FALCON, HORNED LARK, ROCK WREN, RUFOUS-CROWNED SPARROW, FERRUGINOUS HAWK, ROADRUNNER and both EAGLES. Coyote Ridge is unique serpentine grassland, and its natural and cultural history will be discussed.

Trip Difficulty: Each person can choose 3- or 5-mile route. Mostly flat ranch road with minor elevation and some short rocky areas. Trail not ADA compliant.

Other Trip Notes: Porta potties at the beginning only. Heavy rain will cancel.

Meet: Parking lot on Malech Rd (37.213343, -121.720944) where we will carpool to a second parking lot off Metcalf Rd, SC County Motorcycle Park (37.236702, -121.718144)

Directions: From San Jose, south on Hwy 101 towards Morgan Hill. Exit Bailey Rd. Turn east, over Hwy 101 about 1/2 mile. Entrance is a green ranch gate on your right. Longitude/Latitude: 37.213343, -121.720944

Facilities: Porta potties at the beginning; limited Cell phone service; no drinking water

Parking Type and Fees: Large dirt lot, no fees.
