Field Trip: Ed Levin Calera Creek Trail (Milpitas)

Ed Levin County Park hosts a variety of year-round and seasonal birds. Starting at Sandy Wool Lake we will walk out-and-back along the Calera Creek Trail. Targets include Grasshopper, Rufous-Crowned, and Lark Sparrows along with singing Lazuli Bunting.

Trip Difficulty: 3 miles, gravel trails, packed-dirt trails, rocky trails, uneven or rutted trails, some hills (less than 300 ft elevation gain), trail barrier that you must step over, little to no shade

Other Trip Notes: Bring layers and water, the exposed trail may be warm in the sun.

Meet: large parking lot near dog park 

Directions: From I-680 in Milpitas, exit E Calaveras Blvd and go east for 2 miles. Turn left onto Downing Rd and continue for 1.1 miles going past Sandy Wool Lake to the opposite side. The large parking lot will be on your right next to the dog park. Latitude/Longitude: 37.456984, -121.863857

Facilities: ADA accessible bathroom, bathroom, drinking water, cell coverage may be intermittent or non-existent

Parking Type and Fees: paved parking lot, parking fees (use Santa Clara County Park annual pass, otherwise it is $6.00 per car, credit card only)
