Into the Woods: Up and back on the Lisa Killough and Cottle Trails
Nestled in the rolling hills below Mt. Loma Prieta, Rancho San Vicente OSP and Calero County Park have wonderful habitats that include Oak Woodland, Grasslands, Chaparral, and riparian habitat. A variety of sparrows, raptors, and waterfowl should be present. Possibly we could see both species of eagles found in our county. This park of rock-strewn grassy hillsides and scattered oaks is located in the south end of Almaden Valley. We will hike the Lisa Killough Trail and part of Calero County Park's Cottle Trail as we look for Lark Sparrows, Rock Wrens and Golden Eagles.
Optional: pack your own lunch/snack and we'll picnic together afterwards.
Trip Difficulty: 3-4 miles, dirt trails, muddy or possibly muddy after rain, some hills (less than 300 ft elevation gain), some shade, poison oak alongside trail (wear long pants)
Other Trip Notes: Since it is rainy season, bring rain gear. Make sure to wear good hiking shoes. Could be cold as well.

Meet: Rancho San Vicente Parking Lot
Directions: From US-101, exit Bailey Ave. Follow Bailey Ave for 3 miles to McKean Rd. Turn right onto McKean Rd. Park entrance will be on your left in about 3 miles. From CA-85 in San Jose, exit Almaden Expy south. Drive south for about 5 miles, turn right onto Harry Rd, take the next left onto McKean Rd and go 1.3 miles. The park entrance will be on your right.
