Field Trip: Migrants & Locals at Vasona Lake (Los Gatos)

Join us for a leisurely bird walk looking for migrant and local birds at Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos. As fall begins, we’ll explore the lake, riparian woodlands, eucalyptus groves, and expansive park lawns. Year-round residents include woodpeckers, herons, egrets, grebes, sparrows, and finches. We’ll keep an eye out for lingering breeding birds, migrating warblers, and returning winter residents.

Trip Difficulty: 2 miles,paved trails, gravel trails, lawns (potentially wet), some hills (less than 300 ft elevation gain), some shade

Other Trip Notes: We will be starting at 7:30am at the Peppertree Picnic Area near University Ave. Vehicle gates open at 8am. We will park along University Ave. and enter through the pedestrian gate.

Meet: University Ave at the pedestrian access gate

Directions: From CA-85 in Los Gatos, exit Winchester Blvd and turn right. Continue south for about 0.3 miles then turn left onto Lark Ave. Turn right onto University Ave. The park pedestrian-only access gate will be on your left in just under a mile. Latitude/Longitude: 37.241799, -121.972504

Parking Type and Fees: street parking, parking fees (use Santa Clara County Park annual pass, otherwise it is $6.00 per car, credit card only)
