Field Trip: Rancho San Antonio (Cupertino)

Our route through Rancho San Antonio Preserve in Cupertino will take us through a mix of grassland, chaparral, and wooded areas. We will look and listen for year-round resident birds including Acorn Woodpecker, White-breasted Nuthatch, and Spotted Towhee, as well as returned winter birds such as White-crowned Sparrow and Ruby-crowned Kinglet. We'll also keep our eyes open for raptors, including Red-shouldered and Red-tailed Hawks, and White-tailed Kites. Beginning birders are welcome!

Trip Difficulty: 1.5 - 2 miles, packed-dirt trails, some hills (less than 300 ft elevation gain), some shade

Meet: PG&E Trailhead, near southwest corner of Parking Lot 1

Directions: From Foothill Expressway in Cupertino, turn onto Cristo Rey Drive; continue 0.8 miles to the roundabout; take the second exit to stay on Cristo Rey Drive; continue 0.2 miles.
