Spring at Henry Coe

Henry Coe is a massive state park protecting 80,000 acres of the Diablo Range. We'll take a moderately difficult 2-or-3 mile route through classic California chaparral and oak woodlands looking for new spring arrivals such as warblers and vireos. Expect a peaceful viewing experience in this beautiful and remote park!

Trip Difficulty: 2-3 miles, dirt trails, some elevation (although we'll avoid the steepest trails)

Other Trip Notes: The Henry Coe headquarters are relatively high-elevation, so bring warm layers

Meet: Headquarters Visitor Center

Directions: From US-101 in Morgan Hill, exit East Dunne Ave. Continue east on East Dunne past Anderson Lake to the park headquarters at the end of the 10-mile winding road. If you are using a smartphone or navigation system, use the full address to ensure you come to the right entrance: 9000 East Dunne Ave., Morgan Hill. Latitude/Longitude: 37.186780, -121.547046

Facilities: bathrooms at visitor center, limited cell service throughout the park

Parking Type and Fees: $8 cash or state park pass; 2 small lots near the visitor center, one larger overflow lot 0.4 mile flat walk from the visitor center. The park can get busy on weekends during spring, plan accordingly.
