Phylo-birding at Ulistac Natural Area (Santa Clara)

We’ll use the diverse bird species and habitats of Ulistac Natural Area to focus on ways in which phylogenetic and biogeographic knowledge can enrich your birding experience. This urban open space with oak and riparian woodlands and seasonal wetlands contains the last 40 acres of natural, undeveloped land along the Guadalupe River in the city of Santa Clara. Northern Flicker, Wilson’s Warbler, Cassin’s Vireo, Rufous Hummingbird, and Bullock's Oriole will be some of our targets. A handout will be provided, and it would be useful to first attend the phylo-birding Zoom talk on May 8.
