Young Birders Club: Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area
Join the Young Birders Club for a birding trip in Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area, one of the premier winter birding destinations in Northern California. Seasonal flooding creates vast wetlands that attract huge numbers of waterfowl and other wetland birds, offering both diversity and spectacle with relatively easy access.
During the trip, we expect to see large flocks of ducks and geese (including Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Snow and Ross’s Geese), swans, sandhill cranes, shorebirds, and a variety of raptors such as White-tailed Kite, Northern Harrier, and Red-tailed Hawk. The area is also known for wintering ibis, herons, egrets, and occasional surprises depending on water conditions.
This will be an auto tour. We’ll make multiple stops along the driving route to scan flooded fields, ponds, and canals, making it suitable for birders of all experience levels.
