2019 Registration

Update, February 2019: We are sad to announce that due to recent transitions, we are unable to offer Audubon Naturalist Training in the summer of 2019. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and look forward to welcoming a new class of Audubon Naturalists in 2020!

2018 Inaugural Class of Audubon Naturalists

2018 Wrap Up

Audubon Naturalist Training was a summertime crash course on how to be a naturalist - in just seven days, high school students were taught numerous outdoor skills and studied California ecology. SCVAS staff spent months planning and preparing for the training, bringing in partner organizations and collaborators to ensure that the naturalists-in-training were learning from top-notch conservationists. While students were grasping the fundamentals of bird identification and wildlife tracking, we were learning from them. This inaugural class of Audubon Naturalists gave us valuable experience that will enable us to evolve the curriculum for future classes. We received wonderful feedback and look forward to leading high school students through this program for years to come.

It doesn’t end here! Look out for Audubon Naturalists at upcoming SCVAS field trips and outreach events - students seeking official Audubon Naturalist Certification must continue exercising their skills as support naturalists over the coming year. Thank you to all of the families and friends who have supported our students throughout their training, and to the docents, volunteers, and donors who helped us make this training possible.
