Townsend's Warbler by Dave Zittin

Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve (Los Gatos)

Located 3 miles south of Los Gatos, Bear Creek Redwoods is a preserve of second-growth redwoods, Douglas firs, madrones and oaks. We’ll explore the short, easy-access, interpretive trail that circumnavigates a small pond and check out the area around the historic buildings of Alma College before taking an optional short (1/2 mile) uphill hike into the forest. Possible birds include Hooded Merganser, Belted Kingfisher, Townsend’s Warbler and Steller's Jay.

Optional: pack your own lunch/snack and we'll picnic together afterwards.

Trip Difficulty: 2 miles, first mile is on paved accessible trails with little to no elevation gain, second optional mile is along a steep dirt trail

Other Trip Notes: Dress warmly, it can be very cold in the redwoods early in the morning.
