Field Trip: Bear Creek Redwoods OSP (Los Gatos)

This is a joint event with Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority.

Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve is located 3 miles south of Los Gatos with a beautiful and biologically rich ecosystem provides habitat for a diversity of wildlife, including mountain lions, bobcats, western pond turtles, a few species of bats. This walk starts at the upper lake, walks through the historic buildings of Alma College, around the Radio Hill Trail and back on the Salamander Springs trail. We’ll look for woodpeckers, flycatchers, sparrows, and raptors.

Trip Difficulty: 2 miles, paved trails, gravel trails, packed-dirt trails, muddy or possibly muddy after rain, rocky trails, some hills (less than 300 ft elevation gain), some shade

Meet: Alma parking lot by Upper Lake

Directions: From CA-17 in Los Gatos, exit Bear Creek Rd, opposite Lexington Reservoir. Continue on Bear Creek Rd for 1 mile. The parking lot is on the left. Latitude/Longitude: 37.182799, -122.004305

Facilities: ADA accessible pit toilet, pit toilet, cell coverage may be intermittent or non-existent
