Field Trip: Beginning Birding at the Bay (Palo Alto)

Enjoy the shorebirds, ducks, sparrows and gulls on this bird walk geared towards beginners. We’ll stroll around the duck pond, mudflats and tidal marsh then continue on to the airport trail over the pickleweed. Route may change depending on the birds.

Trip Difficulty: 2-3 miles, paved trails, gravel trails, packed-dirt trails, little or no elevation gain, little to no shade

Other Trip Notes: Summer at the baylands can vary so prepare for wind, marine layer or sun. Bring water and binoculars if you have them. Loaners will be available.

Directions: From US-101 in Palo Alto take Embarcadero Rd east towards the bay. Pass the airport and turn left at the T-intersection. Continue for 0.5 miles passing the duck pond. Just over the bridge, the nature center (2775 Embarcadero Rd) will be on your left and the paved parking area will be on your right. Lat/Long: 37.458949, -122.105212
