Field Trip: Summer Birding at Almaden Lake Park (San Jose)

Join us for a summer birding adventure at Almaden Lake Park and Los Alamitos Creek Trail, a scenic urban oasis nestled in San Jose’s Almaden Valley. We'll explore the fields and lake in the park, then follow the tree-lined Los Alamitos Creek Trail upstream through rich riparian habitat teeming with songbirds, woodpeckers, and raptors. This easy, accessible walk offers a variety of habitats and is perfect for birders of all levels. 

Trip Difficulty: 2 miles, paved trails, packed-dirt trails, little or no elevation gain

Beginner Friendly

Meet: Winfield Blvd parking lot near the blue bathrooms

Directions: From CA-85 in San Jose, exit Almaden Expy. Drive south for 0.8 miles, turn left onto Coleman Rd, then make the first right onto Winfield Blvd. Park entrance is on your right in less than ½ mile. Lat/Long: 37.2389964, -121.8698891

Facilities: bathroom, drinking water, cell phone service

Parking Type and Fees: paved parking lot, street parking, parking fees (use San Jose Parks annual pass, otherwise it is $6.00 per car, credit card only)
