Field Trip: Bird Watching at Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve (Morgan Hill)

This is a joint event with Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority.

We will take the dirt trail through oak studded grassland and climb a moderate hill covered in oak and riparian woodland. We will walk out for a just over a mile and return on the same trail. We will see Yellow-billed Magpie, Red-tailed Hawk, Western Bluebird and Acorn Woodpecker among many bird species. If we are lucky, we might see Golden Eagle and Rock Wren.

Optional: pack your own lunch/snack and we'll picnic together afterwards.

Trip Difficulty: 3 miles, muddy or possibly muddy after rain, uneven or rutted trails, hilly (elevation gain over 300 ft)

Other Trip Notes: Check the weather forecast. Rain cancels, but dress appropriately for cold weather conditions.

Meet: Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve Parking Lot

Directions: From US-101 in Morgan Hill, exit Bailey Ave. Travel west for about 0.7 miles then turn left onto Santa Teresa Blvd. Continue for about 2 miles then turn right onto Palm Ave. The preserve is at the end of the road. Latitude/Longitude: 37.171062, -121.727388

Facilities: ADA accessible pit toilet
