Field Trip: Calero Creek Tail (San Jose)

This flat dirt trail runs alongside the base of the Santa Teresa Foothills passing through grasslands, chaparral, riparian habitat, and an old orchard. Possible birds include Wrentit, California Thrasher, Rufous-crowned Sparrow, Lincoln Sparrow, and Ruby-crowned Kinglet. There’s a log trail barrier at the trailhead that may be difficult to step over for some.

Trip Difficulty: 3 miles, packed-dirt trails, muddy or possibly muddy after rain, rocky trails, uneven or rutted trails, little or no elevation gain, trail barrier that you must step over, some shade

Other Trip Notes: Wear sturdy, waterproof shoes. Trails may be muddy, rutted. The trail crosses a creek. There is no bathroom or water. Number of attendees is limited due to limited space on trail and to avoid bicycles on the trail.

Meet: Calero Creek Trail entrance at Harry Road 

Directions: From CA-85 in San Jose, exit Almaden Expy south. Drive south for about 5 miles, turn left onto Harry Road. Drive 0.4 miles. The trail entrance will be on your right just past the creek. Latitude/Longitude: 37.207263, -121.823664

Facilities: No Toilets, cell coverage may be intermittent or non-existent
