Field Trip: Rancho Cañada del Oro OSP (Morgan Hill)
This is a joint event with Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority.
Located in the eastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Rancho Cañada del Oro offers oak savanna, oak woodland, and riparian habitat. We'll walk along Llagas Creek Loop, the newly opened Hidden Meadow Trail and part of Longwall Canyon Trail in search of birds such as Band-tailed Pigeon, White-breasted Nuthatch, Wrentit, Northern Flicker, Red-breasted Sapsucker, Hermit Thrush, Red-shouldered Hawk and other typical oak woodland species.
Optional: pack your own lunch/snack and we'll picnic together afterwards.
Trip Difficulty: approx 2.5 miles, paved trails, packed-dirt trails, muddy or possibly muddy after rain, little or no elevation gain, poison oak alongside trail (wear long pants)

Meet: Preserve Overflow Parking Lot
Directions: From US-101, exit Bailey Ave. Continue west on Bailey Ave for 3 miles. Turn left onto McKean Rd, continue for 2.5 miles, then turn right onto Casa Loma Rd. The preserve is located at the end of Casa Loma Rd and the overflow lot is 1/4 mile up the road from the main parking lot - please do not park in the gravel equestrian lot. From US-101, exit Bailey Ave. Continue west on Bailey Ave for 3 miles. Turn left onto McKean Rd, continue for 2.5 miles, then turn right onto Casa Loma Rd. The preserve is located at the end of Casa Loma Rd and the overflow lot is 1/4 mile up the road from the main parking lot - please do not park in the gravel equestrian lot. Facilities: ADA accessible pit toilet, cell coverage may be intermittent or non-existent
