Calero Creek Trail (San Jose)

Located in the Almaden Valley area of San Jose, this pretty out-and-back trail passes through chaparral, riparian and grassland habitats. We’ll look for Rufous-crowned Sparrows, Lincoln Sparrows, Savannah Sparrows, Wrentits, California Thrashers, Yellow-rumped Warblers and Ruby-crowned Kinglets.

Trip Difficulty: 3 miles, packed-dirt trails, uneven or rutted trails, little or no elevation gain, trail barrier that you must step over, little to no shade

Meet: Parking lot on San Vicente Ave in San Jose

Directions: From CA-85 in San Jose, exit Almaden Expy south. Drive south for about 5 miles, turn right onto Harry Rd, take the next left onto McKean Rd and go 1.3 miles. Turn left onto Fortini Rd, in 0.6 miles turn left onto San Vicente Ave. Parking is on the right. Latitude/Longitude: 37.203347, -121.806014

Facilities: No facilities; nearest facilities at Calero County Park, Rancho San Vicente entrance
