Field Trip: Fall Birds on the Calero Creek Trail (San Jose)

This flat dirt trail runs alongside the base of the Santa Teresa Foothills passing through grasslands, chaparral, riparian habitat, and an old orchard. Possible birds include Wrentit, California Thrasher, Rufous-crowned Sparrow, Lincoln Sparrow, Rock Wren, and Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

Trip Difficulty: 2.5 miles, packed-dirt trails, little or no elevation gain, some shade, poison oak alongside trail (wear long pants)

Meet: Stile Ranch trailhead parking lot on San Vicente Ave

Directions: From CA-85 in San Jose, exit Almaden Expy south. Drive south for about 5 miles, turn right onto Harry Rd, take the next left onto McKean Rd and go 1.3 miles. Turn left onto Fortini Rd, in 0.6 miles turn left onto San Vicente Ave. Parking is on the right. Latitude/Longitude: 37.203347, -121.806014
