Black-necked Stilt by Allison Cheng
Field Trip: Fall Migration at Don Edwards NWR (San Jose)
New Chicago Marsh, located in north San Jose, and the native gardens around it are a productive spot for shorebirds, ducks, sparrows, and more. We'll also explore the recently reopened Mallard Slough Trail. The huge numbers of birds, some at reasonably close distance, provide good opportunities to practice our identification skills as well as enjoy the end of fall migration.
Trip Difficulty: 2-3 miles, packed-dirt trails, little or no elevation gain, little to no shade, wood planks over the marsh
Other Trip Notes: Bring water, a hat, and sunscreen. The gate to the parking lot will only be open at the beginning and end of our trip so try to arrive on time and avoid leaving early.
