Field Trip: Picchetti Ranch Zinfandel Trail (Cupertino)

Join us for a pleasant walk down the Zinfandel Trail at Picchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve, starting near the historic winery. We’ll follow the trail to an ephemeral pond through forest and along hillsides to see and hear birds. We will observe local residents and search for woodpeckers, sparrows, flycatchers, warblers, and other forest and chaparral birds.

Trip Difficulty: 2 miles, packed-dirt trails, lawns (potentially wet), muddy or possibly muddy after rain, rocky trails, some hills (less than 300 ft elevation gain), some shade

Meet: preserve parking lot

Directions: From I-280 in Cupertino take Foothill Blvd south 3.3 miles (becomes Stevens Canyon Rd). Turn right on Montebello Rd, go about a mile, and then turn left after the winery entrance into the preserve parking lot. Latitude/Longitude: 37.294602, -122.091328

Facilities: ADA accessible pit toilet, pit toilet, cell coverage may be intermittent or non-existent
