Seasons Changing at Palo Alto Baylands

American Avocets by Tom Grey

As the season changes from summer to fall, we’ll have the opportunity to see the first migrating shorebirds arriving from the north, while continuing to enjoy the 'growing up' bird families from this summer. Along the trails and in the sloughs we'll look for resident Avocets and Stilts; we’ll check-in on the Barn and Cliff Swallows with the youngsters getting ready to fledge; and we’ll spot returning migrants such as Marbled Godwits, Long-billed Curlews and Whimbrels.
