Field Trip: Spring Birding and Wildflowers at Máyyan 'Ooyákma/Coyote Ridge (Morgan Hill)

This is a joint event with Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority.

Coyote Ridge (Máyyan 'Ooyákma in the local Chochenyo language) is located in the Diablo Range foothills in southern Santa Clara County. We'll explore the top of the ridge for Lark Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow, Rufous-crowned Sparrow, Horned Lark, Rock Wren, Golden Eagle, and other residents. Time permitting, we'll also go downhill into the unique serpentine grassland for spectacular wildflowers.

Trip Difficulty: 3 miles, gravel trails, packed-dirt trails, some hills (less than 300 ft elevation gain), little to no shade

Meet: Metcalf Motorcycle Park

Directions: From 85, take the Bernal Road exit, take Bernal to Monterey Road south, then left on Metcalf Road to Metcalf Motorycle Park, go past the main entrance and park in the far parking lot. Latitude/Longitude: 37.236872, -121.717897
