Spring Birding at Almaden Lake Park (San Jose)

Join us for a spring birding adventure at Almaden Lake Park and Los Alamitos Creek Trail, a scenic urban oasis in San Jose’s Almaden Valley. We’ll scan the lake and its rookery island for nesting egrets and herons, then follow the creek trail through riparian habitat rich with songbirds, woodpeckers, and raptors. This easy, accessible walk offers a variety of habitats and birding opportunities for all levels.

Trip Difficulty: 2 miles, paved trails, packed-dirt trails, little or no elevation gain, some shade

Meet: near blue bathrooms in the Winfield Blvd parking lot

Directions: From CA-85 in San Jose, exit Almaden Expy. Drive south for 0.8 miles, turn left onto Coleman Rd, then make the first right onto Winfield Blvd. Park entrance is on your right in less than ½ mile. Latitude/Longitude: 37.2389964, -121.8698891

Facilities: bathroom, drinking water, cell phone service

Parking Type and Fees: paved parking lot, parking fees (use Santa Clara County Park annual pass, otherwise it is $6.00 per car, credit card only)
