Field Trip: Ulistac Natural Area (Santa Clara)
Hairy Woodpecker by John Scharpen
Join us for a leisurely bird outing to look for songbirds, woodpeckers, and raptors. This urban open space with oak and riparian woodlands and seasonal wetlands contains the last 40 acres of natural, undeveloped land along the Guadalupe River in the city of Santa Clara. Park volunteers are continuing to remove invasive species and add California native plants, making this place a rich urban sanctuary great for year-round birding. This trip is geared towards beginners but all are welcome!
Trip Difficulty: approximately 2 miles, packed-dirt trails, some hills (less than 300 ft elevation gain), some shade, Our route is mostly flat, but there is a paved ramp leading up to the levee (about 40 feet). There is no shade on the levee.
