Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society and Grassroots Ecology are partnering to host volunteers for a day of restoration, exploration and research as we help to restore some of McClellan Ranch Preserve’s natural beauty! Join us as we learn about local birds, remove invasive plants, and learn about the health of Stevens Creek.

Who: This is a great activity for young families, students looking for volunteer hours, and community members who are just plain curious about their local Nature Preserve. Volunteers of all ages are welcome; minors under 18 require a parent to approve the online waiver when registering for this event, and children under 12 require an accompanying adult unless prior approval is obtained from the workday supervisor.

What: Volunteers are invited to help with habitat restoration work such as removing invasive plants, have an opportunity to do a bit of wildlife watching, learn about our local native plants, and test the water quality of Stevens Creek. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about watersheds and do a bit of biomonitoring by looking at which aquatic bugs live in this part of the creek - finding too many pollution tolerant bugs could mean a pollution problem.

Where: Meet near the main parking lot at McClellan Ranch Preserve, 22221 McClellan Road in Cupertino.

Parking: The main parking lot at McClellan Ranch is too small to accomodate this event's participants. We will be using the overflow parking area accessable west of the main entrance on the north side of McClellan Road. It is only a one-minute walk across the bridge to the main event area.

Please bring:

  • A reusable water bottle

  • Dress for outdoor work (sturdy shoes and long pants recommended)

  • We will provide gloves and tools

Please notify jeremy@grassrootsecology.org if you can no longer attend the event so that your spot can be offered to another volunteer.
