COVID-19 Updates Page
The latest update from Santa Clara County was August 6 and can be found here: Public Health Orders. These restrictions significantly affect many activities. You should read them carefully and check the page regularly for further updates.
While we've postponed many in-person events such as Field Trips, we are still working hard to bring you great bird-related experiences. Here are some recent updates:
- Although in-person Field Trips are on hold right now, you can still enjoy being out in nature via our Self-guided Field Trips. You can also vicariously enjoy our local parks by watching our Virtual Field Trips, a video series created by local field trip leaders and members
- Our growing YouTube channel hosts two great new learning playlists: Carolyn Knight's Birding Basics and Matthew Dodder's Ask BirdGuy. Now's a great time to learn more about our local birds
- The Bay Area Bird Photographers has moved to an online format using Zoom. Attend their next meeting or check out the past talks
- Items from The Nature Shop are available for curbside pickup by appointment. Call or email April Austin scvas@scvas.org to arrange a date and time
- We've moved our Speaker Series to an online format so you can enjoy our presenters from home. If you miss a talk, you can watch it on our YouTube Channel
The staff, board and volunteers of SCVAS are deeply invested in slowing the spread of COVID-19. We are enacting new policies concerning classroom visits, events and field trips, anything that poses a potential risk of exposure. We are continually evaluating our plans, assessing the risks and getting as much information as possible out to you.
As we learn more about COVID-19 we will update this page with any new developments, so please check it regularly. Now more than ever we are driven to connect people with nature through birding, education and conservation. Exactly how we succeed will depend on responding intelligently to this developing situation.
Precautionary Measures:
- All high-contact surfaces at our office are disinfected regularly
- Staff is working remotely except when necessary to come in to the office
- All staff and volunteers are instructed to stay home if they feel unwell or have symptoms
- Loaner binoculars are disinfected before and after each use
- Spotting scopes and field guides are not to be shared
- Face masks and social distancing are required for in-person meetings
